Focus on the focal point!
An acrylic workshop with Lyse Deselliers
September 21-22, 2019

Join award-winning artist Lyse Deselliers for this two-day course in which we will review well-known guidelines to good composition and focal-point placement. Lyse will share tricks to guide the viewer's eye through the painting toward the focal point. Students will accompany her by painting their own 12x12 painting on cradled wood panel using acrylic paint.

Participants will bring their own acrylic paints and brushes; the gallery will provide the cradled wood panels.

Saturday, September 21  5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday, September 22    Noon to 4 p.m.

Cost $160.00 + GST

Lyse Deselliers is a award-winning FCA member who has been painting for 16 years. Her bright, colourful style has been favourably compared to the Group of Seven. She likes to have fun with the participants as she believes “a relaxed painter is a better painter.”

Follow the path!

In this two-day course, award-winning artist Lyse Deselliers will work with participants to explore the rewards and challenges of painting an engaging path (a trail leading into the painting) using the rules of composition and perspective. Participants will paint along with Lyse to create their own 12x12 acrylic painting.

Participants will bring their own acrylic paints and brushes; the gallery will provide the cradled wood panels.

Figurative and Seascape Painting

An acrylic workshop with Julie-Ann Miller
November 2-3, 2019


Join Julie-Ann Miller for a two-day course in which you will learn how to paint yourself (or your favourite person!) into a painting on Lake Okanagan beach. Choosing from four possible scenarios, Julie-Ann will guide you through the process of planning the painting, choosing colours and directing attention to help you complete an acrylic painting you are proud of. Along the way you will gain an understanding of colour theory, perspective, figurative painting and seascape painting.

Participants must have some experience working with acrylic paint, and will bring their own supplies (list provided upon registration).

Julie-Ann Miller has been a portrait and figurative artist in Penticton since 2007. She is an active, juried member of the Canadian Federation of Artists – South Okanagan Similkameen Chapter showing her work throughout British Columbia in Federation Shows as well as other events. She has been at Front Street Gallery since it opened in 2013. Julie-Ann works primarily in water-based mediums and enjoys painting scenes from the lovely Okanagan as well as from her travels.

Workshops at the Front Street Gallery

The Front Street Gallery’s workshops are led by some of the Okanagan’s finest artists. Class sizes are kept small to ensure each participant receives hands-on attention and emerges with an expanded appreciation and skill they can apply to their art.

All workshops are held in the gallery at 60 Front Street in Penticton.
